Who We Are

The Bigfork Roofing Company Neighbors Call Twice

Roof Repair Smedway didn't start as a franchise looking for a market to plant a sign in. Our crews trained on real tear-offs, real ridge vents, and real attic inspections in Bigfork, MT before we ever put a truck on the road under this name.

Ask any Roof Repair Smedway crew lead for a copy of our license and certificate of insurance and they'll hand it over before you even finish the sentence — that's standard practice here, not a special favor.

A patched flashing that leaks again in eighteen months costs a homeowner more than the first repair ever saved. That's why our Roofing crews follow manufacturer specs on every nail pattern and every underlayment overlap, not just the visible parts.

Problem Signs

How To Tell A Roof Needs Roofing Before It Fails

Most roof failures don't happen overnight — they build quietly for months before a homeowner notices the ceiling stain that finally forces the issue.

Shingle Grit Washing Off

Asphalt shingles shed protective granules as they age, and a gutter full of grit usually means the surface layer is wearing thin.

Warped Shingle Tabs

Cupped shingles trap moisture underneath instead of shedding it, accelerating rot in the decking below.

Daylight In The Attic

Climb into the attic on a sunny day — if you see pinpricks of daylight, water can get through the same gaps.

Soft Spots Overhead

Sagging drywall or a soft spot underfoot in the attic usually points to sustained moisture damage, not a one-time drip.

Attic Feels Hotter Than Usual

Energy bills that creep upward without an obvious reason are worth checking against your roof's condition.

Bare Patches On The Roofline

Even one missing shingle can let enough water through to rot the decking underneath within a single storm season.

Our Core Services

Roofing Solutions Built For Every Bigfork Property

We break our work into distinct service lanes because a wind-lifted ridge cap and a full tear-off need completely different crews, materials, and timelines.

Emergency

Emergency Roof Repair

When high wind or hail peels back a section of roofing, our on-call crew tarps the exposed area to stop active water intrusion before it reaches the decking, then schedules the permanent repair.

Residential

Homeowner Roof Solutions

Residential work covers shingle repair, full re-roofs, ridge and soffit ventilation upgrades, and skylight flashing — whatever the house actually needs.

Commercial

Flat & Low-Slope Roofing

Flat and low-slope commercial roofs get scheduled inspections in addition to repair calls, catching ponding-water issues before they become structural.

Replacement

New Roof Installation

Replacement jobs include a detailed material walkthrough so you're choosing a system that fits your climate exposure and budget, not just whatever's on the truck.

Inspection

Preventive Roof Checkups

A thorough inspection checks flashing, fasteners, ventilation, and granule loss — the small issues that turn into major leaks if left alone.

Specialized

Skylight, Chimney & Flashing Repair

If a roof has an unusual pitch, an older material system, or a custom architectural feature, our senior crews handle the scoping personally.

FAQ

What Bigfork Homeowners Ask Us Most

How fast can a Roofing technician arrive in Bigfork, MT?+
Most non-emergency calls get scheduled within 24 to 48 hours, and active leaks or storm damage are prioritized for same-day response whenever possible.
Do you provide upfront pricing?+
We quote flat-rate pricing in writing before any work starts, so there's no ambiguity about what the final invoice will look like.
What emergency services are available?+
Our emergency scope covers anything that's letting active water into the structure — wind-torn shingles, cracked flashing, and fallen debris damage.
Are you licensed and insured in Bigfork, MT?+
Yes, every lead technician holds current state licensing and we carry full liability and workers' comp coverage, with documentation available on request.
Do you work with my homeowners insurance?+
We're not your insurance company, but we make the paperwork side of a claim as painless as possible.
How do I know if I need a repair or a full replacement?+
We look at shingle age, granule loss, and decking condition together — isolated damage on an otherwise healthy roof usually means repair, not replacement.
What roofing materials do you install?+
Standard and architectural asphalt shingles, metal roofing systems, and commercial membrane options like TPO and EPDM are all within our scope.
Do you offer a warranty on completed work?+
We stand behind our installs with a written workmanship guarantee, and manufacturer warranties are registered on qualifying materials.
How much does a typical roof repair cost?+
Costs vary by damage extent and material, which is why we inspect first and quote a firm number rather than guessing over the phone.
Can you inspect my roof before I file an insurance claim?+
We regularly inspect roofs specifically to help homeowners decide whether a claim is worth filing in the first place.
Do you offer financing for larger roofing projects?+
Financing options are available for qualifying replacement projects — ask your estimator during the written-quote stage.
How long does a full roof replacement take?+
Most residential tear-offs and reroofs take one to three days depending on roof size, pitch, and weather conditions.

Trusted Roofing service in Bigfork, MT - Roof Repair Smedway
Some say the name "Bigfork" is derived from the Salish name for the area. However, Bigfork is a fork where two rivers, the Flathead River and the Swan River, flow in to the Flathead Lake. There are reports of a homestead and orchard immediately north of Bigfork as early as 1885. Everit L. Sliter set out 500 apple, cherry, plum, and pear trees in 1892 on Flathead Lake's east shore. He became the first postmaster in 1901. In 1902, he platted the Bigfork townsite at the mouth of the Swan River. The east shore has since become a major cherry-growing area. Wayfarers State Park lies just south of the community.
